Welcome to my page! My name's "Akina." It's just a psuedonym. It was given to me by a Japanese friend when I attended Kansai Gaidai several years ago. He created it with the intent of preserving the meaning (not sound) of my real name, so the reading is rather unusual.
As you can see from above, I live in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. I work as an assistant English teacher at a middle school. I got the job through the Jet Programme. However, I'm originally from New York state.
So why Japan? No, the answer is not anime. Actually, I'm not interested in it. I started studying about Japan on my own in middle school. We studied about World War II and I realized that I knew nothing about Japan. Thereafter, I used any media I could find to learn more about the country and culture. This lead me to Japanese rock music, to Japanese literature (Yukio Mishima, Banana Yoshimoto ect), to major in Asian Studies (with four years of Japanese language) and to eventually where I am now.
Though my job takes up most of my week, I still have time for hobbies. Right now my main hobby is playing bass guitar. Which is a lot of fun and I would recommend to anyone, though I'm not an accomplished bassist. I translate lyrics usually from Japanese to English but sometimes from English to Japanese. It's something that is sometimes challenging and doesn't take days to do. Lastly I love reading and also belong to a writing/reading circle that I hang with weekly.
Lastly, my user name...It started out as a joke and just stuck. And hey well goblins are cool.
